Older People

Our Friendship Group for over 60's meets each Monday at 1.30 in the cafe. Each week we do something different. 

In the past we have enjoyed singing from local entertainers, watching classic films and comedy shows and going to the Pantomime in the Opera House. We have learned about benefits, recycling, saving energy and St. Patrick as well as going on trips to Garden Centres, other towns and even the beach! We’ve recently got together with the Reke Friendship group from the New Lodge and have started doing some joint activities. There are about 15 people in the group and we’d love for some more to join. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome, a bit of craic and a cup of tea. 

History 
The Friendship group began as a pilot project in March 2009 funded by St. Stephens Green Trust, Trusthouse Foundation and Katherine Howard Foundation. The Enkalon foundation have ensured it will run until June 2010. The project began to tackle the growing problem of isolation amongst older people in North Belfast and in particular the Duncairn Ward where one in four houses is occupied by a lone pensioner .
